Core Trainer Workshop on Modules 6-7 (English & Mathematics) in Jakarta

The workshop was held on October 13-17, 2008 at Ibis Hotel Slipi, Jakarta. The workshop’s objectives were to train core trainers on modules 6-7 and prepare them to conduct training in district level.

The participants were Core Trainers from all provinces where the DBE3 project is being implemented. One of the participants, Bpk. Karim (37), an English teacher from SMAN 1 Liliaraja Soppeng, South Sulawesi, said that so far he had participated in five rounds of training conducted by DBE3 and had really got a lot benefits from these training.

“Thanks to the training and workshops conducted by DBE3 now I can present the subject in a more effective and lively manner in class. I can say that students enjoy the lessons more and they understand the knowledge more,” said Karim.

What Karim said was in line with the workshop, which was opened by Jordan Naidoo, the Acting CoP of DBE3. In his speech at the workshop opening, Jordan emphasized the importance of improving teaching methods through workshop and trainings. Some feedback and comments were given by participants. One of them concerned the need to revise module 6, specifically in terms of language.

Workshop Learning Resources Box

On October 21-22 DBE3 held a learning resources box workshop in Jakarta. The workshop, involving all DBE3 teams from 6 provinces, was intended to explain about the learning boxes: what they are and how to use them effectively.

The training participants were Education Officers, District Officers and District Trainers. Following the training, District Officers and District Trainers will conduct similar training for teachers in their own districts.

DBE3 Meeting in Jakarta

On November 12-13, 2008, DBE3 team Indonesia had a meeting in Jakarta. The meeting was opened by the new DBE3 CoP Stuart Weston. The two-day meeting was meant as an introduction to the new CoP and for a discussion of the future program. The discussions at the meeting ranged from program revisions to replication/dissemination of DBE3 programs at district levels.

There was also a discussion on non-cash grants and communications. The meeting was attended by provincial and district staff from Aceh, North Sumatra, West Java-Banten, Central Java, East Java and South Sulawesi.
