Follow up Activity Workshop is No Ordinary Workshop

DISTRICT Facilitators (DF) have been involved in several follow-up workshops. They organized them after they finished the training in the foundation modules 1-3, subject modules 4-7 and toolkits. At first these post-training workshops lasted a single day, involving DFs only.

There were usually no practical simulation sessions in it. “But now the post-training workshop is different,” says Awaluddin, a DF from Subang. He said that the workshop now lasts for two days with more varied materials and involves other people, not only District Facilitators.

In addition, there are also simulations or role playing at the workshop, making it similar to the teacher training. “Now the post-training workshop does not focus only on work planning,” says Taufik, a District Facilitator from Subang. This change in the post-training workshop is a breath of fresh air for District Facilitators and encourages them to aim for a greater impact of DBE3 programs in schools.

“I really like this change and I hope it can help improve the program,” says Sugeng, a District Facilitator from Lebak. Just like Sugeng, most DFs seem to consider the follow-up workshop as a means of increasing the impact of the DBE3 programs they are running.

Kriswati: Teachers’ and Schools’ Performances Enhanced

FOLLOWING DBE3 interventions the enrolment rate has increased in some schools. Students are more eager to learn as teachers and schools give them better education. The statement was made by Dra. Kriswati, M.M.Pd, at a meeting with the Subang District Head concerning the impact of DBE3 programs. “SMPN 2 Jalancagak initially had 300 students,” says Ibu Kriswati, as an illustration. Now the school she leads has 600 students.

With more assistance from DBE3 Ibu Kriswati is certain that her school’s performance will be better, as the teachers will be more professional. “Students enjoy being taught by teachers who have been trained by DBE3,” she adds. As a result, SMPN 2 is applying to become a Sekolah Standar Nasional (SSN – a national-standard school). This effort has the full support of the teachers at SMPN 2.

“This is the impact of DBE3 programs,” explains Kriswati. She hoped that DBE3 would carry on with its programs. “I hope DBE3 programs continue,” she says. During a Leadership Forum in Bandung, Kriswati testified how DBE3 had assisted her teachers to improve the quality of education in her school. She also emphasized that the school principal plays an important role in ensuring that DBE3 programs run well.
