Encouraging Students to Create their Own Work
|
These examples of students’ work show their creativity, the contextual nature of the learning that has taken place, are interesting to read and are part of the process of developing students’ life skills. The 3D map was made in a Social Studies lesson by students of SMPN 2 Sedati, while students of MTs Nurul Huda wrote about how to sow and grow seeds and students of SMPN 15 Surabaya wrote about the vision and mission of a political party. Students’ work of this kind should be praised by the teacher, displayed and put in a portfolio.

Students’ work can also be a source of learning by giving ideas to other students, as can be seen in the Social Studies class at SMPN 2 Sedati Sidoarjo. The groups of students enrich their ideas by reading and noting down ideas from other students’ work.

Students of MTsN Nglawak are encouraged to make use of computers (laptops and desktops) in their lessons. Using the computers students do various kinds of work, including writing reports, making presentations, drawing pictures and producing other creative work.
