Workshop and Showcase in North Aceh

DBE3 has been working for two years in North Aceh, assisting 25 schools through a program funded jointly by Exxon-Mobil and USAID. The program has included training for district facilitators, who have in turn conducted training for teachers and school principals.

The workshop and district showcase conducted on December 1-2, 2009 in Lhokseumawe was intended to present the achievements of DBE3. The event also aimed to ensure the sustainability of DBE3 program after phasing out in mid 2010. The pictures on this page show some of the activities at the workshop.

  1. The event was opened by the Bupati, who stated his commitment to support the dissemination of DBE3 programs to non-partner schools in North Aceh.

  2. Several DBE3 partners, including teachers and principals gave presentations at the workshop. In this picture, you can see Drs. Munzir, a district facilitator, who has helped train schools and mentor their teachers.

  3. Even students took part in the workshop. Mujibur Rahman of SMPN 1 Syamtalira Aron is seen telling the audience how lessons in his school have become more varied, interesting and participative since the teachers have been taking part in DBE3 training.

  4. DBE3 is not the only project which focuses on education in North Aceh. Others include DBE1, DBE2, UNICEF and a number of other smaller organizations. They all participated in this workshop. In the picture, you can see the Bupati visiting the DBE1 and DBE2 exhibition stands.

  5. Workshop participants had opportunities to visit DBE3 target schools to observe a variety of teaching and learning activities taking place. You can see two students making graphs based on data they have collected.

  6. The classroom environment is different now. Students of SMPN 1 Tanah Luas are working in small groups. In the background, there is a display of students’ work. While the students are working in groups, the teacher goes around the class to give them assistance.
