Using a Mini Market as a Learning Resource
SMPN 1 Beji, Pasuruan District

Students of SMPN 1 Beji Pasuruan learning social studies outside the classroom. They are observing a mini market near their school.

THE ACTIVE learning model a la DBE3 has inspired many teachers to keep trying innovations in classroom learning activities. Many teachers apply contextual learning and use the school environment as a learning resource. Students are taken out of the classroom to face the reality of the world outside so as to make them think critically about their environment. This is what teachers have done at SMPN1 Beji, Pasuruan district.

Since getting training from DBE3, teachers in these schools are more open to creating meaningful learning for students. One of the things they have done is to get students to learn outside the classroom. They have done this in social studies learning. Teachers have used a mini market as a source of learning for students. Learning outside the classroom like this has received a very positive response from the students. They feel they understand much more quickly the material being taught.


Training Students to be More Confident by Talking Futsal

INTELLIGENCE is not to make no mistakes, but to see quickly how to make them good. This means that intelligence does not come from not making mistakes but quickly knowing how to put right the mistakes we make. This quotation encourages people to try something new. As an example, when learning English in MTsN 3 Surabaya, students are taught not to be afraid to practice speaking through the game ' talking futsal '.

In this game students gain many benefits. As well as training them to be confident appearing in public, this game also encourages cooperation among students so that social skills can be achieved. " I was feeling nervous but I am very pleased to be able to make sentences using the simple present tense, " said Hasanah, an 8A-grade student, after the lesson.

Through the talking futsal game, students are introduced to simple vocabulary without realizing that they can also use these words to make simple present tense sentences in English. The students are divided into several groups with six people per group. Every student in the group has the task of a member of the futsal team which consists of a goalkeeper, defenders and strikers. The rules are similar to futsal, i.e. there are two teams that compete and face each other. The difference is they pass a sentence not a ball.

Every player has to be able to make a simple present tense sentence correctly. If they make a mistake then the player get a yellow card, and the " ball " is transferred to the other team, and so on. If there are students who have managed to score a goal (the ball has been passed to all six players), then the team is the winner. This game requires concentration, because they have to pay attention to sentences from the opposing team and make corrections so that the " ball " can be passed over to their team. Learning using this game trains students to dare to make mistakes and try to correct the mistakes they make. Good luck.
